Background:
Park Street CofE Primary School school was opened in 1877 on its present site. It is one of the five Church Schools of Cambridge, known locally as 'the Old Schools'. Rejoicing in its Christian foundation, the school is part of a family of 81 Church of England primary schools in the Diocese of Ely. The school has a long tradition of welcoming the families of local residents and of celebrating the variety of religious traditions which they bring. Situated right in the centre of the city, the school is within easy walking distance of the interesting local spaces of Jesus Green, Midsummer Common and the River Cam. The school is ideally placed to make extensive use of the colleges, art galleries, libraries, museums and other resources maintained by the university and city. The catchment area includes the surrounding residential area and some colleges, including the theological training colleges. Most children live locally but there are others who travel from further afield.
