Background:
Founded in 1871 as the Higher Grade School in Paradise Street, Cambridge, it became the Central School in 1919, with selective entry. In 1955, it became the Grammar School for Boys and moved to its current site in the southeast corner of the city where it occupies modern buildings on a site of more than 40 acres, with open country and the Gog Magog hills beyond. The school is 'strong' in a wide range of sports, especially athletics, rugby, soccer, netball and hockey. It offers an A-level course in drama and stages 'significant productions'. Music is also 'strong, particularly orchestral'.
