Background:

Somersham Primary School is located in the Fen village of Somersham, about 17 miles from both Cambridge and Peterborough, nine miles from Huntingdon, and five miles from St Ives. The school'serves the village of Somersham and Pidley, with a few children coming from further afield. The school was built in 1964 to replace the former separate infant and junior schools. It has since benefited from additional building and refurbishment programmes. There is a purpose-built reception year block accommodating two classes and a further 10 permanent classrooms. The school enjoys the facilities of a library, resource room, computer suite, large hall, kitchen, offices, staff room and medical room. The school benefits from a large playing field with an enclosed environmental area, a wooden trim trail of climbing units used for physical and creative play, and a hard playground area which doubles as a netball court. The reception block has a decorated courtyard area. The school believes strongly in promoting the all-round development of pupils in its care. It therefore offers a stimualting and varied range of extra-curricular activities for children of all ages. These activities include, in the autumn terms recorders, football, netball, choir, internet and chess clubs.
