Background:
The school originated from Huntingdon Grammar School, which was founded in 1565. It became comprehensive in 1970 when it moved into Hinchingbrooke House, with new buildings in the grounds. A further building programme in 1992 united the school on a single site, providing 'excellent' accommodation in addition to a heated indoor swimming pool, double Astroturf hockey pitch, nine tennis courts, a lake for water sports and a performing arts centre. The school is over-subscribed, with 1.15 applications per place. It offers the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and its community involvement includes being the pilot school for a community service project. It aims to be the 'ideal comprehensive', meeting the individual needs of pupils of widely-ranging abilities. Extra-curricular activities such as art, music and drama are 'a strong factor'. There is also a parents association.
