Background:

Longthorpe Primary School was built in 1976 and occupies extensive grounds situated near the village of Longthorpe on the north-western edge of Peterborough. The school recently installed a security fence and is planning to develop the school grounds as well as extending the school building in order to meet the demand for places. A new computer network has been installed for management and curriculum purposes. The school is 'well-resourced and equipped', offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities from writer's workshop to recorders. Close links exist with local churches and community groups in particular the Sue Ryder Home, Thorpe Hall. Instrumental lessons in cello, violin, trumpet, flute and clarinet are offered. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in cycling proficiency, French, Italian, athletics and modern dance. The school has a special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator who manages SEN policy and works with class teachers to closely monitor pupils.
