Background:
Built in 1940 as an all-age school, Duke of Bedford became a primary school in 1983. The school is 'large with spacious classrooms and extensive grounds featuring a variety of trees and ponds'. School facilities include a swimming pool, computer suite, library and a stage with lighting. Sporting activities include football, netball, unihoc, rounders, athletics and swimming. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in cycling proficiency classes. Football, netball, computers, art and first aid are all offered as extra-curricular clubs. Funds are raised for a different charity each term and the school is a member of the RSPCA. LOcal people are invited into the school for 'family assemblies' on Fridays and there is a 'very active' parent teacher association. In addition to the school's own special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator, peripatetic specialists provide support for three hours a week.
