Background:

Situated in a residential area close to the River Cam and the centre of Cambridge, the school dates back to the Edwardian period. Accommodation includes nine classrooms, each with a computer workstation and book corner containing a 'wide variety' of fiction books. There is also a separate reference library. Milton Road's school hall is 'well-equipped' for gymnastics and is used for a daily act of collective worship. The dining hall is located in a separate building. There are three playgrounds, a pond and wildlife area, and pupils also have free use of Chesteron Community College's field, a short distance away. The school takes 'great pride' in meeting pupils' individual needs and support for children with special educational needs takes place 'in close partnership with parents'. Most children are involved in at least one of the 'exciting' activities the school offers. Music is a 'major strength' and a variety of opportunities is available including several recorder groups, several choirs, and an orchestra, which plays to the school each week. Years 5 and 6 take part in an annual musical. Sports clubs include football, rounders, netball and cricket, with teams playing regularly in local competitions. There are also French, needlework, chess, media and science clubs. Two residential visits are available to pupils 'to enhance the curriculum and develop the children's social skills'. 'Extremely supportive' parents are trained to help around the school and there is a 'thriving' parent-teacher association. 'We aim to encourage a love of learning and thereby make every day a rewarding experience for child and teacher'.
