Background:
Built in 1960 as one of Cambridgeshire's unique group of village colleges; strong ethos of community porvision remains fundamental; located on 26-acre site on edge of one of 16 villages that it serves. New mathematics and science centre, art studios, technology suite, full-size floodlit Astroturf pitch and tennis courts, gym, dance studio, fitness centre and performance auditorium. Strong emphasis on academic and extra-curricular activities. Recent visits to Morocco, Florence, Canada; more are planned to New York, Tibet, Greece and Kenya. Exchange programmes with schools in Germany and France and well-established partnership programme with Edendale School in South Africa, including pupil exchanges. Music offered encompasses orchestra, jazz band, instrument groups, rock groups, choir and music technology group, with three concerts per year. Children can learn percussion, guitar, wind, brass, strings and piano, and take part in summer arts festival. Specialist sports college status. Sports are soccer, rugby, hockey, netball, basketball, badminton, volleyball, tennis, cricket, rounders, athletics, swimming, squash and cross-country, with pupils taking part in inter-school, district and county competitions and several representatives at district, county and national level.
