Background:
Elsworth COfE was opened in 1954 by the Bishop of Ely to replace four smaller schools and serve the parishes of Boxworth, Conington, Elsworth and Knapwell. The buildings have been extended and are in 'very good condition'. The school is served by an 'ample' playground, a wildlife area and pond. Music, art and drama are important elements of the school's broad curriculum and technology is a popular after-school club in winter. Sport includes football, hockey, netball, swimming, rounders and cricket. The school 'welcomes the involvement of parents in our school family.' There is an active parent-teacher association, all parents are automatically members. Operates an 'open door' policy which means parents are always welcome to visit. Many parents help in the classroom. The present headteacher will retire in August 04 and Mr Nicholas Smith has been appointed to become headteacher in September.
