Background:

Founded in 1939 as the fourth of Cambridgeshire's village colleges; a successful specialist language college; recognised as an international school by the British Council. The college has an international sixth form and 75 per cent of students take the International Baccalaureat. As a language college, it has provided a French teacher for local primary schools. French is compulsory to GCSE and German a second language for all from the age of 11 to 14. Japanese, Spanish, Latin and ancient Greek are also offered at GCSE, with Russian in the IB. There is a full A-level programme and a school of performance from which students proceed to major centres of the performing arts. Mathematics and English are lead departments and the separate sciences are popular at GCSE. History, music, art and business studies are excellent. There is a rich provision of extra-curricular activities, including drama, a wide range of sports, music, dance and opportunities to develop as active citizens. Over-subscribed, with more than three applications per place. Artsmark Gold (2001); Sportsmark (1998); DfES achievement award (2003).
