Background:

Ramsey County Junior School is a three-form entry junior school (age 7-11 years, Years 3-6) serving Ramsey, Ramsey forty-foot and surrounding areas. Ramsey Junior School is a very old and well established school which was extended in 1982 with the addition of two new classrooms, a hall and office suite. It has recently been extended again to increase the size of three for its oldest rooms. Also the hall has been extended and the buildings linked. A new staffroom and music/drama room has also been created. It has extensive playing areas, with a sports field, small-grassed area and an environmental area with a pond, small trees and wild flowers. The school has several computers. The use of computers covers most curriculum areas. Computer skills develop powers of reasoning, logic and observational and group interaction skills. Children are given the opportunity to experience music making i.e through sounds and rhythm, listening and participating, using a range of instruments. It has a school choir and musical tuition available in clarinet, flute, violin and recorder. The school participates in local music festivals and workshops. The school aim is to create a community in which the children will feel happy and secure, thereby enabling the foundation of their education to be achieved.
