Background:

Dogsthorpe Junior School was opened in 1950. It served a vast, new showcase housing estate built at the end of World War 2. The school is steadily being adapted to the needs of 21st century education, with improvements such as developing an ICT suite and upgrading classroom facilities. All available spaces in the school are used either for whole class or small group work. The library is sited in the open area to the front corridor. It has a large, grassed playing field that is marked and used for a range of sporting activities through the seasons - football pitches, athletic markings etc. The school uses outside advisers and trainers to develop staff skills and to provide swimming for the children. Dogsthorpe Junior School is a happy, caring community where children quickly feel secure and eager to learn.
