Background:
Opened in 1967, Coton school is situated close to the village church and green and comprises a hall and four classrooms with a fifth classroom and playgroup in mobiles. It has a playground area, netball court and large playing field, and a courtyard area and wild garden are used for outdoor study. The school's environment is enhanced by a copse of trees planted in the field for the millennium. It offers a variety of after school activities including football, netball, cricket, athletics, and tennis, French and short tennis. The school'serves the parishes of Coton and Madingley, although children from the surrounding area and outskirts of Cambridge form a large part of the school. The school's ethos is one of 'mutual respect, valuing the skills and talents of individuals and enabling children to develop high self-esteem' and it has developed a home school agreement with children and parents which reflects its philosophy.
